Character Assassination
AIG; A World Wide Company with 140,000 Employees
Now that the US Taxpayer is on the hook for the success of AIG, it is just amazing how our politicians are running the once stellar brand name through the mud. This serves no purpose, and it really hurts the viability and profitability of the company in the future. AIG is a huge company and it us un-ending divisions, most all of which are and have always been profitable, but with all this negative media attention and public shaming those 140,000 employees' jobs are at risk, so is its overall recovery.
If AIG fire-sales all of its profitable divisions, the company may not be able to pay off all the loans and we taxpayers will be left holding the bag, but on the other hand if the authorities would stop the outing of the company and trashing on its brand name and give it some time, and perhaps follow Hank Greenberg's plan, everyone will win in the long run.
The character assassinating of one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world is just nonsense, sound bytes, and obvious grandstanding. No one said that AIG was not one of the components in the enabling of the issues that led to this financial crisis, but why is everyone picking on them; why are folks and the media not calling out the rating companies, and all the other players that led to the downfall of our global economy?
We need to be a little smart with the blame game, as we need to focus on the goals ahead and not the past. Attacking this great company will only cause us all harm down the road, and that is in no one's best interests. Think on that.
