One of the best performing airlines in the world during this global recession may not be what you think it is or located where you thought it would be. Asia Air has been an incredible success and it was not by accident.
Asia Air's slogan is
"Now Everyone Can Fly!" and there model is very much like that of Southwest Airlines, showing that Herb the former CEO really understood something about Americans and the US flying public.
In fact, let me recommend a very good book to you that has a whole chapter on Asia Air; their success and branding strategies that will help you understand why they are so wildly successful. Indeed, until late 2008 they had never had a quarterly loss, and even with their first quarterly loss, their losses were miniscule compared to their other Asia Airline rivals. The book I'd like to recommend to you is:
"Asia's Star Brands" by Paul Temporal
This book explains why the top brands in India, Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia are where they are and why they will be staying where they are. If you are working in a US Company that is selling to these markets you must buy, read, and understand the principles in this book.
If you are going to compete against some of the brands discussed within this work by Paul Temporal, then may I wish you good luck, as you are going to need it. Additionally, I'd recommend this book for all branding consultants and global marketing folks that wish to enter this market. Think on it.
