Branding Services

Ask a Branding Pro... Free Advice, with no B.S.

They only way you will have buyers beating a path to your door by "Simply Building It" is to have them come to your door first.

When delivering a product or service to the person making the purchasing decision you must make sure the the product actually meets NEEDs, address Wants and adequately controls their expectations.

This is accomplished by taking time to listen to them before you take the time and effort to "Build it".

I think the best deals are on Amazon. I'll probably start there and then shop around town. How much do you charge for a basic website Adam? And what are the benefits to having a professional site versus one of the freebies you find on the web?

Best bet is Best Buy... or Ritz Camera.... you could also look online.

We just kind of ran with it Niel.

I will fully research the D series Adam. It sounds like a good place to start. I'd like to stay within $700 for the camera body. I wonder when Nikon will come out with its newest model? Then I could by the old, but quite new D series brand. Does anyone know this information? It could save me a ton of money.

I finaly revised the original blog to get a serious discussion started. It got out before I took the time to finish it.

Sorry about that.

Indeed... ok well then a broad camera is what you need. Check out the D series... by far they are the most popular digital SLR out there.

I hear the Nikon is quite good. What attracts me is the fact that the lenses have stablizers built in - or maybe that's the Canon. Anyway, I'm researching the best deals right now so I can cash in after taxes come in. I'm ready to make the switch from my old SLR. Digital cameras are the way to go, considering how many pictures you can store on the memory cards, and the fact that slide film and processing are so expensive. I would say that I'm a generalist. I started out in nature/wildlife photography and have since broadened my scope. I need macro, wide angle, and telephoto lenses. It just depends on what I'm trying to accomplish.

For a professional photographer? I couldn't say... each camera has it's own benefits and a "pro" photographer knows what he's after when it comes to shutter speeds, clarity, depth of field, etc. Most of the pros I know have several depending on their unique needs.

I will say that the best digital camera out there for someone like me (semi-pro photographer at best).... is the Nikon D series... I recommend this for several reasons... first of all it's the best bang for the buck... it is an SLR (single lens) camera... so the images come out incredibly close to what you could get with film... and the shutter lag you usually see with a cheaper digital camera is almost non-existant.

I also like the fact that you can switch out lenses like you can on a regular film camera.

All of the above and the fact that it's one of the few affordable SLR cameras out there make this my choice.

Best,

Adam

I would say that's a pretty good road map Adam. I'm still waiting for my famous friends to show up at my virtual door! Ha!

Right now I'm trying to build up my writing and photography business. I'm finding a few avenues for travel writing online, but other then that, the only online work seems to be mainly blogging. I am trying to marshall my energies towards these goals without spreading myself to thin. I would also like to piggy back my novels unto the forementioned (yet to be published). I have a spot on blogger, but that's about it. I can't afford anything else right now, and don't expect too much out of this first year of freelancing, other than trying to make a small profit, and not burning myself out. Hey, what is your recommendation on the best digital camera out there for a pro?
adam fiveson Comment by adam fiveson on March 10, 2008 at 11:04am
I would say build it, paint it, brand it, publicize the hell out of it, advertise it, create a website for it, print up flyers about it, distribute said flyers about it..... then call up your famous friends and invite them to come check it out.... then, if your lucky and the stars are aligned just so, and you can wait out a year or two to get it on it's feet......... then buyers MAY beat a path to your door.

Best,

Adam

Ahhh. How to build a great door. I can use words. But for the wood implements, I leave that to the architects. It seems we feel are way through things and it can be quite difficult. There really is no clear road map for success. I suppose it an individual thing. But, it also requires the help of the community.
