Fair Market Price for Branding Services

Hi,
I have been trying to find out what a fair market price for branding design would be. I am thinking of something that would be able to cross over from print to web. Most companies ask you to call for quotes. For some reason, videographers and photographers and web designers are expected to list prices and packages for their customers, but designers have this mysterious, I can't tell you my prices, thing going on. I empathize with what you are saying... I have noticed the same with many of my competitors. This is why I clearly post my rates on on all my websites.

The issue is more industrywide than you might expect. The problem is that there is a huge influx overseas designers who are devaluing the industry and creating a vacuum, which is making it impossible for good designers to make a living. I have actually begun to provide free initial branding with every website I create.

When I used to teach at the Art institutes, we used to tell our students not to do branding work for any less than $1000. And once they graduated, they were not to take anything less than $5,000. I now provide this service for $500, which is actually an insult to my abilities and considered high by Internet standards.

You wouldn't ask someone with a thick foreign accent to be your spokesperson on a radio program, you wouldn't ask someone who didn't speak English well to write your copy. However, it seems to be perfectly okay to ask them to communicate for you visually in graphics.

In my opinion, I feel that if it seems too good to be true. It probably is.

I have found blatant usages of clipart and copying of pre-existing trademarked work is the most common atrocity performed by those who are too cheap to be believed.

I would be glad to help you with your branding. And yes it is very very important that whatever is created, can be handled in both print and online.
